Open Air Cinema 2019
After months of planning we were finally able to let you all know that the Open Air Cinema was coming back for our third year! On 12th June we asked the lovely residents of Grays to VOTE for the family film they would most like to see – the choices were Dumbo (2019), Mary Poppins Returns or Detective Pikachu. After a week’s worth of voting, the decision was made, you had chosen Dumbo as your preferred film!
With the film locked in and a date in mind, we took to our social media’s to tell everyone that we planned on screening Dumbo in the heart of Grays! The reaction from the public was amazing, Grays residents were tagging and sharing the event with their friends, who in turn were telling THEIR friends – all flocking to our event page to let us know they were coming!
As you all know, unfortunately UK weather can’t be relied upon and as the day of the event loomed the weather took a turn for the worse…
Thankfully South Essex College were our heroes and were able to move the screening INSIDE the auditorium! We sent out messages on social media to let everyone know about the change of location, all that was left to do was wait for the people to arrive! The Grays community didn’t disappoint with over 250 people attending with a mixture of families and those young at heart.
As 6pm drew nearer, people started taking their seats and the auditorium was filled with an electric atmosphere! Before the main attraction began, we were treated to a series of promotional videos, promoting the South Essex College, our wonderful sponsors Sternberg Reed and Thurrock Gazette as well as our very own Love Grays!
With the crowd well and truly ready, it was time for the main event! The lights were dimmed and the screen was filled with brilliant colours and music!
After the event had come to an end, one attendee commented "We had a lovely time, brilliant atmosphere and brilliant film, thank you to everyone who organised this event!" A fan from Facebook also said "Thanks to everyone involved, we really enjoyed it"
Although it didn’t work out exactly as we had planned, this free event was a huge success – bringing together the community through our love of film and of course, all things Disney!
